Why do we celebrate Valentine's Day?

Why do we celebrate Valentine's Day? You might wonder. Well, let us tell you why in a short and simple way.

People around the world celebrated the day of romance from the 14th century (yes that’s long long time ago!). The day gets its name from a famous saint, named St. Valentine who was believed to be a priest from Rome in the third century AD. Marriage was banned back then during Emperor Claudius II time, because he had this belief that all married men were bad soldiers. Valentine deliberately broke the rules and secretly arranged marriages, because he felt that the ban was unfair. Claudius found out that Valentine acted against him and eventually Valentine was thrown to jail and sentenced to death. He fall in love with the jailer’s daughter, and sent her a love letter signed ‘from your Valentine” on 14th February, the date when Valentine’s was taken to be killed.

A beautiful love story, isn’t it? Today, we celebrate Valentine’s Day to show how much we love our boyfriend, our girlfriend, to show affection to our wife, our husband, to send them one message: They’re loved!
